Training Discussion 1
Hi guys,
I thought we
could start some 'discussions'
after our training missions.
It would be a
good place and time to go over
any questions that come up and
clarify anything.
It will help
us all when the feedback comes
in and we can learn from each
other.
Some of us
have A to S covered and others
have G to Z down.
We discuss it
and pretty soon we all know it A
to Z :o)
So here goes
a brief recap of the things I
went over for dive bombing.
1 through 4
with the corresponding picture.
The pictures
are shots from multiple
approaches on the same hanger.
That is why
the look of the approach is not
the same from start to finish.
1-
Get above the target.
It's good to have around 10K of
altitude above your target, it
gives you some time and altitude
to settle down and accurately
deliver the ordinance.
2- Line up the target.
You should chop throttle to
decrease speed and however you
prefer to, roll the plane over
and into the attack angle you
want. Make sure you don't
accelerate to much and try for
the steep attack angle. A rough
aiming point might be the bottom
of the gunsight.
** DO NOT USE ANY RUDDER
INPUT ON DIVE BOMB ATTACKS **
Bombs and rockets do
not use plane rudder slew when
determining their trajectory on
release. They assume a free fall
flight path with the only force
posibly considered being
vertical speed imparted to the
bomb in a dive.
Example- A bomb dropped from a
level flying TBM at 2k will take
longer to hit than one dropped
from a F4u on a screaming dive
from 10k that releases the same
bomb at 2k.
3- Fly the bomb.
If you use a
very steep approach you can come
very close to flying the same
trajectory the bomb will on
release, thereby increasing your
accuracy.
4- Release , delay and
pull up.
Wait that
split second after bomb toggle
to let it completely release
from the aircraft and not
inadvertantly nudge it off
course.
Any thoughts
or suggestions you want to throw
in here feel free.
Any questions
feel free also because there are
NO dumb questions. Except maybe
the ones that don't get asked.
