Air Warrior Museum The start of all online multiplayer air combat games
Many of the pilots flying the virtual skies of Aces High began with the classic game, Air Warrior. In fact, Air Warrior is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, online multiplayer game. It is certainly the oldest WW2 air combat online game that began over 20 years ago in the early 1980's. Flying online at that time was a hefty $6 an hour on the Genie network with a modem connect rate of 1200 Baud or slower. In July 1993 the price dropped to $3 an hour and the baud rate went up to 2400. Only North American and Japanese players accessed the network but that all changed when Aw4W (Air Warrior for Windows) launched on AOL and then Gamestorm. Play was "half-time" in the relaxed realism arena and "full-time" in the full realism arena.
In 1995 Air Warrior for Windows was released and ran on Windows 3.11 as a 16bit game. When Windows 95 was released in Aug 1995 that OS allowed gaming on AW4W, with a good advantage in frame rate.
Air Warrior 1 for DOS - boxed version Konami-Kesmai
Flying Air Warrior on DOS didn't require much of a processor by today's standards. A 386 running DOS 3.3 or greater and at least 3MB of extended RAM and 256 color Super VGA. That 386 computer needed a clock speed of at least 25MHZ.
