Hello Gentlemen,
After Action Report " Flying Leathernecks" 8 December 2010
The group assembled at 9 PM and was briefed on the mission. F6F-5s fully loaded
with fuel, bombs and rockets with a S&D mission to attack an enemy task Group
off base V190, a vehicle base we recently lost. V190 itself was also our
secondary target. We launched and climbed north as we formed up. Reaching cruise
altitude of 10k Home Base called in and reported the enemy carrier had been sunk
and we were ordered to hit secondary target, V190. Targets were assigned and we
hit the base in two waves. A stubborn VH didn't want to go down initially but
was finally destroyed. Enemy vehicles were targeted and gradually eliminated but
by this time a vehicle hanger had regenerated and more vehicles spawned. This
replayed itself over and over but we, with other Knights help, persisted in the
attack and transitioned into F4U-1Ds as the night progressed. Knights finally
manage to capture V190 at around 11PM. A large <S> to Luft and his Luft-troopers
for the capture. Another enemy Task Group closed from the east and engaged C194,
which didn't have its cruiser by that stage of the battle. C94 was eventually
destroyed but what hurt us earlier now turned into a blessing, the vehicle
hangers at V190 regenerated rapidly enough to maintain a solid defense and the
recapture attempt by the enemy was repelled.
