Porkrind revisited.....sort of...
Tonight we found one of our CV groups stationed about half a sector north of the
Bish base A149.
There was heavy fighting between the CV and the enemy base, so we loaded up six
P-51D's with
rockets and proceeded NE from A151 to take out the ords in order to help reduce
the risk to our CV.
A151 was a small base, and there were 2 other small enemy bases each about a
sector away from
A151. The original plan ( ahem ) was to take down the ords at A151, and then go
further NE to de-ord
A152, and then do the same at A150 as we headed back to base.
We arrived at A151 with most of us at about 12 k...and MILT and RTS proceeded to
hit their ord targets
on the first pass, while Seal nailed the radar...job well done men <S>
The rest of us, SKu, Swoose and myself, stayed high for cover as there were a
number of enemy aircraft in the area, with more
arriving at alt from the north.
At this point the CO decided to change plans and use our good position to help
attack the enemy fighters
who were getting close to the cv.
We used our remaining rockets to de-ack the field and we joined the furball
raging between A149 and our CV.
A number of good kills were scored against the Bish fighters, but in retrospect
I should have stuck to the plan
since after about a 30-40 minute battle the Bish did manage to get enough ords
on our CV to sink it.....
oh well...the General won't be happy about this.
Initially we had success with the plan, and I think it is still a very good
operation that would be difficult to
defend against.
With a few more Specs to help escort I think we could easily remove the ords in
a large area of the theater.
As usual, the Specs performed admirably....a big <S> to the pilots who flew.
