Mission Briefing 3-29-2011

Men, this evening we will be making another long range bombing strike.

The plan is to have 4 or 5 bomber formations with everyone else as escorts. We will most likely be

taking B-17's, but if we have adequate turnout for plenty of escort coverage we may go with Lancs.

I will announce that choice at mission time.

MILT will be escort lead and will specify the aircraft and loadout.

Targets and takeoff field will be announced once I can review the situation in game.

Please make sure you have your fuzemaps handy for target ID.  :)

See you all tonight!

Mission Debrief 3-29-2011

Although a large bomber mission was planned originally, we had a somewhat light turnout so we decided to join in a group of Knights who were attacking Rook A117.

We rolled heavy fighters from C204 which was steaming just off the coast of a fully Rook occupied island. We had an amazing number of Knights involved, and in fairly

short order the shore batteries and hangars were taken out. The town was next, and after about a 20 minute battle the town was destroyed and A117 was in Knight hands.

We then rolled heavy fighters again from C204 due to ords being out at the base. Our target initially was V118, but the Knight horde was already hitting it hard as we were

on the way there, so we diverted south to A127. The battle for A127 took another 30 minutes or so, but again with superior numbers all enemy fighters were either downed

or driven away, and after a mass attack on the town troops were brought in for the capture

We then flew east over to A119, the last remaining Rook base on the island. Once again with the number of Knights attacking the base was shut down, the town was

destroyed, and a C47 made it in for the troop drop.

I failed to record everyone's kills, but as I recall we did get a number of A2A kills, gv kills, and a lot of structures trashed.

After completely kicking the Rooks off our island, the Knight horde turned its attention to Tank Town. We initially had no bases at all on the island, and we joined a group

of Knights rolling heavy bombers from A68 to the north of TT. We all took Lancs heavily loaded.

We planned to drop on A85, the air base on the northern part of the island, but as we got close we saw that A85 would shortly be in Knight hands anyway.

We altered course due south, then swung eastward so we could overfly and drop on the string of V bases across the northern part on the island.

Amazingly, 85 was indeed captured, and then in short order V86, V87, V88 all fell in succession. We did drop on some of these bases to help the effort.

Lastly we dropped on A92, on the eastern tip of the island ( not shown on my screen shot ). We managed to take out several FH's and I believe the VH before turning back

westward to land at A85. Rook aircraft began to harass us at this point, and in fact a very pesky P-47 nailed several of our bombers. Unfortunately by then we were scattered

so our defense was poor. Two of us landed our formations at A85 with damage credits.

All in all it was a pretty amazing evening to see the Knights working together so well for once. We steamrolled one island and a big section of the TT island.

Thanks to all the pilots who flew the mission. I think we contributed heavily to the success of the campaign.
