Operation: Bishing It Out At
Alpha 9

At 9 pm (21:00) eastern the Specialists were involved in base defense at A8,
about a sector west of the Bishop base A9. The Bish had A8 capped at the time
and were working on our hangars, but enough Knights arrived to push them back
a bit.
We assembled at P22, another sector west of A8, which had an airfield attached
to the port. The plan was to take off in heavy FOC, proceed eastward, and
overfly the A8 sector with enough alt to be safe from the Bish. We would then
make our attack on the hangars at A9 and then deal with their airborne fighters.
Unfortunately, although we were at about 13k when we were about half way to the
target, we encountered a small group of Bish fighters who had alt on us.
Surprisingly two of them actually ran, but two stayed and had to be dealt with.
Several of us went light and fought off the attackers, but most of the group
retained their ords and carried on to A9 under MILT's direction.
Our initial dive bombing results were mixed, but I believe several FHs were
taken down, but not enough to closethis medium base. There were plenty of
defenders in the air at A9 by that time, and we joined in the general furball
that developed after our first attack. We were able to re-launch from A8 after
that as the Bish were now the ones playing base defense.
For the next hour or so we continued to attack A9 and its defenders, with
several very challenging dogfights ensuing. In particular we had a good time
with a pair of P-47d's that were doing a good job of winging....one was Joach1m
(sp?) I think.
In the end we were unable to close the base, mainly due to the number of Bish
present...but we did have some fun fights, and I saw many kills landed by the
Specialists over the course of the evening.
If we had been able to achieve surprise in our original attack we might have
been able to close the base and then cap it with help form the other Knights in
the area.
Good job guys, and as always, it was an honor to fly with you all.
