German Night

Mission Debrief
German Aircraft Night
We formed up on the runway in a mix of German aircraft:
JU88’s to haul the payload of eggs, and BF109’s and FW190’s to protect the
Junkers.

We rolled out to the Northeast and climbed up to 15,000
feet. Skunk (SK) and Luft were delivering the message the 8X 500 pounders in
their JU88’s. Half of them were on the wings and the other half were carried
internally. For the first run Ditto flew a 190, RTS a BF109, Swoose a 190, Milt
a 109er, Joker a 109, and Engr an Fw190.

Milt airborne. Gear up, nose level, and falling into
formation.
The flight was a short one sector flight across water.
Clouds obscured the view of the enemy airfield until we were very close. This
layer of cover was helpful as we were able to fly all the way in without running
into any bad guys. As soon as we arrived that changed.

The attack was fierce from the start. All fighters dove in
on the swarm of enemy aircraft forming below. Skunk (SK) and Luft got their
eggs off just in time. SK dropped first and scored a direct hit on fighter
hangar #1. Luft opted for a vertical dive bomb position and dropped a barrage
of twenty 50 pound eggs with a salvo of 20 and a delay of 0. He was just
slightly off target and the hangar didn’t drop.

SK right on target, takes out the fighter hangar.
Field Ack took out Luft as he was climbing out for a second
drop attempt with the 500lb bombs that were still loaded. After going down Luft
jumped into SK’s gun positions. The aerial fighting over the field with the
fighters continued as SK returned to base.

The mission was successful in stirring up the hive, taking
out several buildings and the fighter hangars in both the first run and
following runs. The German aircraft stood up very well to a full mix of aircraft
the enemy brought up against them. Kills were numerous and the SK’s buffs safely
RTB’d.
Good run
