After Action Report
Squad Nite 9/23/08

"Operation VulchFest"

The plan was to attack a small airfield and then vulch any enemy that tried to get airborne. This was to be accomplished by
three sections of aircraft attacking the airfield. With the ultimate goal of squad members landing at one time with multiple kill
messages to strike fear into the enemy.

P51's coming in high to destroy the vehicle hanger and radar with 1000 lb bombs and rockets. FW109-F8's and Typhoon's,
nape of the earth (NOE) attacking anti-aircraft guns on the field with rockets. The FW's and Typhoon's vulching and the 51's
capping the airfield.

The *Specialists* took off from A231 to attack A98. This was a coordinated attack, with the three fighter sections hitting A98
at the same time from a distance of over a sector away.

The plan was a good one and two squad nites spent on practice went well. But as the saying goes, (not quite sure of the exact
wording), "the best laid plans go to hell when contact with the enemy is made". And the enemy was a F4u.

The idea was to destroy all the fields anti-aircraft guns basically at the same time and then vulch any fighters upping to defend
the base. After watching the film of the attack, it was clear the F4u disrupted the attack of the NOE fighters. This prevented the
field acks from being destroyed before several attacking aircraft were lost.

Fortunately there was carrier group within a short distance from A98 which allowed fighters to re-up and return to A98 quickly.
Soon the field acks were down and a mini-furball was ongoing.

Even thought the operation objective wasn't meet, the mission proved the squad can undertake a complex operation and have fun
doing it.

         Seal
         Fuze

Attached are 2 films, one showing the 51's, Luft and Joker keeping close formation on me. Luft got really close and I think
there are cool shots of the 51's in the film. I kinda like the paint job.

the second film showing the attack is best watched from the external view and moving the viewpoint around.

Be interested in seeing a film from the FW and Typhoon.

The A53 base defense was fun. At one time, Joker, Luft, Fuze and I were within visual range of A151. We were
pretty much on the deck and trying to rtb. The nme fighters just kept coming, everyone was turning around to cover
a squadmate, I didn't think any of us would make it back. but amazing, we all did.
