March 22nd AAR
Howdy Specs! <S>
It was a bit of a lite attendance
night, so we upped in heavy P-51's from A81 and flew Southeast to our target, a
Rook base A83. The Knights had been working it over pretty well before we got
there, strat showed all fighter hangers were knocked out, as well as the VH and
radar. RTS radioed that he spotted an enemy carrier group, so we diverted to
hit it. RTS went in first, I followed, and I believe we all scored hits, but a
couple of us weren't able to pull out in time and augered. (myself included, but
I got four gun implacements.
Engr radioed, he nailed the carrier
with his rockets, and sent it to the bottom, Way To Go Engr!
Second flight, we went fighter of
choice, and while we were busy working over the carrier, A83 was revived and the
Rooks came out with a vengeance. It was shortly after that, a flight of 3 Rook
262's showed up, Kappa, Sunsfan, and I don't know who the third was, but these
guys were working everyone over, but good. And they didn't let up. They
worked all of the Knights all the way back to A82, the closest base to A83, and
we're making long wide passes at sea level taking people and bomber groups out
every pass. I saw one group of bombers go down twice, he never even fired a
shot at the 262's.
A Knight carrier group came close to
A82, just to the East of it, so the 262's headed that way to continue their
carnage. All night, I only heard one call that someone actually nailed one,
sending it down in flames... not sure who the pilot of that one was.
To finish the evening, a lone 109K4
was working low altitude near A82, so the remaining Spec's and a handful of
other Knights engaged. The pilot was A8Spade, and he managed to take both
myself and SKu down, TWICE, and several others. To add insult to injury, after
inflicting the maximum amount of damage, he leveled out and headed back to 83
without incident, landing 8 kills in the process. SKu and I gave chase, but I
guess since that K4 was out of ammo, it was just that much faster. <large SIGH>
To sum up, there we're allot of Rooks
on that were absolutely on the ball tonight. The "Pig's on a Wing" guys were
flying around us all night, and I didn't see a single "oink" out there, but I
probably missed a few. The Rooks just had it out for us tonight.
Thanks to all of the pilots that
flew, hopefully next week will be better. I saw a few Spec's land kills
tonight, a big CONGRATS to them, they certainly earned each and every one.
On a personal note: nights like this
that end up this bad are frustrating, obviously. Unfortunately, until I get this
last major car project out of the way, it's going to be awhile before I can
start to fly more than once a week, which sucks. I apologize for being so damned
rusty it hurts. It's going to be another month at least before I get this done
and anything starts to change for my schedule. <end whine>
See you guys next week,
~ Milt
