AAR

Hellcat strike.

Fairly light turnout with half a dozen or so Specialists in attendance. There were vague reports of a enemy task group offshore our A148 and nearby taskgroup. Skuttlebutt was right and we suited up and got into our F6F-5 Hellcats fully armed with 3/4 of a tank of gas. We took off southwest and turned to the right eventually ending up on a course near 120 heading to the A148 area. Enroute, radio chatter indicated the primary had already been sunk so we diverted to secondary A149. Orders had to be SNAFU as we weren't loaded with enough fuel to reach secondary with loiter time and rtb safely. HQ changed our orders and we headed NNW to hit the vehicle base V147. Multiple hangers were hit and destroyed but many enemy vehicles poured onto the field to defend it. Low level flight over the base had become very dangerous. We continued the attack with other Knights but a determined defense made a quick resolution impossible.
