Titanic Tuesday Knights
Mission Debrief 2-1-2011
Tonight we logged on to see a large battle underway at A11, which was held by
the Bish on an island that was
otherwise Knight property.
The Specs loaded up four formations of B-17's south of the battle area at A51,
with 5 heavy escort fighters to
keep us safe on the way through the combat zone.
We formed up and headed due north for 3 sectors at a bombing altitude of 15k,
just below the cloud deck.
I was very pleased with the tight formation flying on the way in.
We then hit the IP and made a turn NE to the target.
We took out several FH's, but I blew my bomb run by mis-identifying my target
until it was too late : :(
Oh well...guess I need to watch 12 O'Clock High a few more times...
We egressed NE, made a 180 and came back over the field. Although there was
considerable enemy fighter
presence, our excellent escorts kept the bombers safe. On our second pass we hit
another of the FH's but
still did not close the base.
At this point we rolled heavy fighters from A9, which was about one sector west
of the target.
On this sortie we did a bit better, taking out the VH and the remaining FH along
with some enemy aiircraft.
There was a large number of Knights both in gv's and in aircraft, and despite
this overwhelming force it
still required another 45 minutes to capture the base. The Bish were able to
send a few fighters into the
combat area, and in addition they rolled gv's in from a spawn north of the town.
But A11 was finally returned to its rightful owners.
In addition to the bomb damage I did see some Spec kills on the text buffer,
including a 4 kill run by Ditto <S>.
Overall it was a fun night...everyone did a good job, especially flying in
formation, but I see we can improve
our bombing accuracy ...( especially yours truly ) ...LOL
Thanks to all the pilots who flew...as always an honor to fly with you <<S>>

Mission Run

.AHF film
This was one of the best Knight attacks
I've seen in a long time. Why? I was out of gas and the base would be captured
in about 30 seconds. Troops were on the way. I tried to glide to a landing on
the Alpha 11 runway but broke off both wings doing so. The aircraft stayed
straight though and stopped on the center line. The decision was made to wait it
out.
For 10:56 the aircraft sat on the runway
waiting fore the capture and managing to not be shot down by ground ack, GV's,
eggs from above, and other aircraft. What it demonstrates the best is the
knights in action like a hive of stirred up bees. The essence of the coordinated
attack was captured on the film posted above. It runs 10:56 and ends with the
2nd Knight Goony Bird drop which results in the capture.
This is one of those Aces High films that
has a lot of action. The best way to see it is to jump into someone else's
cockpit by double clicking their name on the list. You can get some excellent
views by using the zoom keys { & } press the F3 external view key the F8 free
movement key to use the Num Pad to move around.
What a fight!
