Carrier Operations off the South Sea
There was a sizeable battle going on
when the Specs started gathering for their usual Tuesday evening festivities.
One of our carrier groups was parked near A126, a large Bish airfield, and a
steady stream of naval planes was making its way over to the furball just
offshore.
The Specs were warming up there, and
RTS jumped into a 5 inch gun to swat down some of the attackers.
Then the CO logged on and called for
us to group up at A99 for takeoff, and at that point RTS had to leave the
shooting gallery with only 10 kills. Good job RTS!
We took heavy FOC for an attack
on A126. The plan was to maintain some high cover while others dove in on their
targets...the FH's and VH.
We came in high...about 20k...and
began working over the hangars. As we dropped on our targets, and then
eventually got shot down, we re-upped from a closer field, A114. We got kind of
spread out during this time, so maybe it is a good idea to hold in the tower for
a minute or two so you can return to the fight with at least one other Spec.
The attacks continued to keep the
FH's down, and we were able to keep an effective cap on the field. At the same
time there was a large group of Knight gv's assaulting the field from the north
side.
As the field was capped, we turned
our attention to the town. This didn't take long, and soon the town was ready
for troops. Luft had ferried a load of drunks over in a C-47, but evidently had
landed nearby, waiting for the signal to proceed with the drop. Unfortunately he
had a slight mishap during takeoff, and had to bring another load. Someone else
already had troops on the way, and made a successful drop, just as SKu roared
into town with an M3 loaded with troops.
Overall it was a vey successful night
and we did capture A126.
Many thanks to the pilots in
attendance: Seal, Milt, Luft, Swoose, Torque, Skinner, SKu, RTS, and Joker.
As usual it was a privilege to fly
with you gentlemen.
