Corsair Island Hop -Milt CO

Good Evening Spec's,
We had an excellent turn out tonight, seven Specialists in all.
We had a little delay getting out due to bad weather in the
Carolina's, but we all got up as the storm past. <S>
The first hop in light Corsairs, we looked good flying in formation
towards base 41. We intercepted a flight of B17's that was gunned by
some capable guys, they sent four of us packing pretty quickly. Luft
got some good hits on them I believe, and RTS finished them off. <S>
Second hop, we got a little spread out. Fuze and I tied on with a
Spitfire, only to have a second Spit fly up out of seemingly no
where to gun us both from the sky. I didn't even see him until it
was too late, I tried to ditch with a dead engine only to get shot
up on the ground before I could exit the plane. In the meantime
Seal, RTS, Joker, Luft and Swoose were mixing it up South of 41. RTS
tried flying a hog back to a VH on fumes, and almost made
it back.
Third hop found Fuze and I with Seal and Luft. A P-47 wandered into
our flightpath, and Fuze got hit. Seal and I gave chase to the 47 in
a steep dive, I G locked and augered, Seal got the 47. Seal stuck it
out and got another kill, and was RTB when we showed back up; he did
very well and landed his kills in his F4U. RTS & Luft also landed a
kill or two I believe. WTG Fellas! <S>
All in all it was a tough night (for me anyway), but I hope you guys
enjoyed it. I know I've only made 8-10 squad nights since I've been
back, and so I felt a fighter sweep evening would be a nice change
of pace. (In fact, I hope it never gets old <S>) I'm sorry if I
missed anything, I was scribbling notes about the different flights
as I flew along.
If you guys can take it, I'll try again next week, I'll see if I can
come up with something else more fun than getting shot up in
Corsairs. <S>
Thanks to all that participated, It's always a pleasure to fly with
you all.
<Crisp Salute> and Blue Skies,
~MILT
