Squad night AAR 11-16-11
P40 Merlins
Good morning Specialists,
Last night, we tried out the new P40-N’s sent by command.
I am happy to report that they performed well, the addition of the Merlin
engine really makes a significant difference in performance. They have a decent
load out capacity, with the ability to carry three 5oo pounders plus 4
difference gun packages. Although they perform admirably- they really don’t pack
enough of a wallop to kill bases without numbers, since it takes Two thousand
pounds of ordinance to kill a fighter hanger. However, with persistent efforts,
we were able to shut down the Rook base we were attacking, at least for a short
while, once we transitioned into P-51D’s.
Stiff resistance was felt all over last night, as Fuze pointed out, the other
Knights were more interested in furballing last night rather than all out base
capture- so again, we were unable to capture our target. As the night wore on, a
pair of nuisance 262’s appeared, and the whole battle shifted towards our base,
effectively turning our mission into one of defense, rather than attack.
Shortly after, I discoed twice, and called it a night early. If I hadn’t
picked out P-40’s to use in the attack, we probably could have gotten the job
done with bigger planes that carried more ordinance; but I will say I personally
thought the P-40 was a hoot to fly, and certainly capable as an attack aircraft,
that can stick around and duke it out with the best of them after the pickles
are in the barrel. (Or kill a VH with the guns, right Joker? J )
In an effort to keep things interesting- I like changing up the plane set on
occasion, but I also agree there’s a point to sticking to what you’re good at.
Next week is a busy Holiday week for most of you, myself included. I am pretty
sure I will not be on next week, so if Swoose or anyone else wants to step up
and take command next Tuesday the 22nd, please do so.)
I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Holiday. Normal
squad ops will resume November 29th. Take care everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving!
