Tuesday Night Squad Ops
AAR 08/16/2011
Hello Gentlemen: Due to the light turnout, Swoose and I decided to postpone his
B-26 mission one more week, we’ll give another shot on next Tuesday, 08/23/2011.
That said, here’s what we did: Swoose, Sku, and I launched from Knight base A47,
in heavily laden B-17’s; our target, a Rook held base to the Northeast, A66.
Shortly after launch, Ditto came up to meet us and provide much needed escort
service in an F4U-4. We climbed to 15 thousand with little to no drama, and
approached the target. I was on scope when I heard the call of resistance, a
high P-38 appeared out of no-where, and engaged Ditto from the rear. Ditto
reported seeing tracers passing his windscreen, there was a flash, and I think
he was either heavily damaged or sent directly back to the tower. The 38 engaged
Swoose next, and was successful in downing all three of his flight before the
drop. I lined up on F1, and dropped on the bomber hanger just before it. I was
successful in my drop, got both hangers and soft gun. Right about the time I got
off scope, the P-38 caught up with me. He approached from the side, and I fired
on him, but my lead plane exploded, so I jumped into drone#2. Right about that
time I was waiting to line him up in my sights, I got a join invite from Swoose
to gun, so I grabbed the mouse, which started acting as if I was in snap view. I
couldn’t check the box, and it was directly in the middle of my screen, so I
couldn’t see my attacker. My second drone exploded, and I headed back for the
cockpit of Drone #3. The mouse pointer appeared and I was able to click “accept
Swoose” but then I got an error message, again in the middle of my screen. That
was pretty frustrating, and it stayed there even once I got back to the tower, I
had to logoff and logon again to get the box to go away. I am going to have to
dig around in my settings I guess and figure out how to fix that. Had Swoose
been able to join as he should have been, the 38 would have been toast I have
little doubt, I saw enough with the crazy snap view of the mouse, he was simply
pulling up on my tail and lighting me up. If I could have seen through the box,
I would have had him, or at least hurt him pretty bad. Maybe Fuze knows how to
fix? I am not sure how Sku fared, I hope he was able to put some of his bombs on
target, I don’t think he made it back either, but I’m not 100% sure on that. The
worst part was watching him (Dakone, the 38 pilot) land 7 kills a couple of
minutes later. I guess it was a suicide mission anyways, but hate going out like
that. The rest of the evening was fighter of choice, we went on the hunt for
P-38’s. We never found any, but found plenty of others. The only other highlight
from the evening was me trying to clear Ditto’s six, he had two hurricanes on
him, and I was close…. Problem was we were head on. So, down I went, firing
along the way, and I clipped (collided) the tail of the Hurri closet to Ditto,
causing both of us to crash. I didn’t think it was any big deal, stuff happens,
but pretty soon I was getting nasty PM’s from OddCAF, the pilot I collided with.
He was pretty upset, name calling and such, Probably should have ignored him,
but threw a few insults of my own, oh well. He sent a few more, so I sent him a
<Yawn> and flew on, some of these guys take the game way too seriously. That’s
it for this week. Very glad to see Ditto again! Glad you’re back man! Until next
week, take care!

SQUAD MISSION FEEDBACK
Got really creamedon the b-17 run but I saw
Ditto,SKu and myself with 2 kill runs. Revenge was sweet! MILT had the kills but
wasn't able to survive to land them as the action was fast and furious. I think
SKU got the most assist :).
Swoose<S>
we were otw to a66 and Swoose made the comment that this
was Rook country.
Made my drop on field missed FH got the radar. Saw Swoose go down in my
bombsite. Went to guns and saw Milt's last two buffs destroyed.
Then i got swarmed, a Zero, F4u, P38 and FW190. Got the Zero and a assist.
Pinged the 38 enough he turned back. Got the f4u and another assist.
Then the 190 got 2 of the my 17's not sure what got the first bomber. I didn't
make it back either.
Later in the evening went to a66 at 19k. Ran into (over a66) 3 38's, a 47, 2
51's, all between 18 to 21k , all over the top of their base.
I'm positive, a Rook tactic is to climb to 20k over their base before they even
depart for the combat zone. I have ran into this before over Rook bases.
Always seemed to be more nme than friendly.

I remember Swoose’s transmission well, and it was sound
warning. We got lucky that we made it over the target without much problem, I
think most of the Rooks were too busy furballing a low altitude. (All but one at
first anyways, when it went South, it went quick) I agree with you, it’s most
likely a legit Rook tactic to run 20K. I think the 38 that jumped Ditto may have
even been higher than that, sometimes it’s hard to spot the high ones, and he
had plenty of E. I was with you when the swarm at 20K came up, I think I mimed
Fuze’s line, “we’re a little too deep in injun territory” and indicated we
needed to move South. We were fighting a group of AK’s then, those guys are a
pain in the butt even when they’re on the deck. We engaged the two 51’s, I have
no idea where the P-47 went. I did get some kills last night, but Swoose is
correct, I didn’t land but one on the final sortie. I must have really been busy
last night, and I apologize, I missed all of the kill messages except two from
Ditto when he landed the two at the end. milt
It was so busy one time last night I thought I was in the
dueling arena at furball lake! Those guys in the 51's worked well together and
killed us a lot of times. I think their luck finally ran out but their teamwork
was outstanding.

Hi,
You run into a pair like that film it and watch what they do. [ Yikes, 5 typos
in that single line. ]
Alot if it is staying tight, you extend frm your wingie more then 2 or 3k, you
leave him alone in a 1v1 and give the enemy time to breathe. AKs teamwork is way
above average and their skill level is too.

Hi,
Shift M should turn mouse look off. [ two typos there, better slow down ] There
is also a checkbox in preferences > views to disable it. One of my pet peeves in
AH is getting a join request, squadie or not, without notice. It can really
interrupt your actions and train of thought.
I generally use the command .showjoin 0 , which makes all mine come in as text
through the text buffer, takes a little longer to accept as you have to type
.accept gameID, but much more easy to ignore them and not have them interrupt
you. A .showjoin 1 will change them to a popup.
I'd have to agree, REDACT], IMO at least, climb higher than other sides although
Bishops have been doing a nice Rook imitation at times. I do not like playing
Altitude Warrior.
Guess we can work on bomber defense in the future. Being familiar with your
bomber and their key # positions is critical to switching guns and being in the
right position to defend as best you can. A few times in my 17 I've been
attacked from the rear and when I switch from rear to chin gun see the guy
loitering there at about D.500 climbing away. If your able to switch quickly and
acquire the target you have a good chance to put a few rounds into him and
either make him a little less eager to attack or do damage and make him
disengage. Some of the most common transitions are top to bottom, rear to front
or vice versa. At a minimum you should KNOW those in the bomber you are flying.
A tactic I've used a few times lately in my 17 is a jinx of sorts to throw off a
attackers attack. Have to be careful especially if still heavy you don't
overstress your airframe and cause needed parts to fall off, like your wings.
