Squad Night

December 2004
Hello
*Specialists*,
I logged on to find RTS and Seal
up flying a fighter sortie out
of A21, a high alt base we had
on the Bish/Rook front. I joined
up in a Bf109G10 to catch up and
see if I could assist them.
Seeing A21 was a 10k altitude
base we decided to do a few
bomber missions because the
climb time would be reduced at
this base.

RTS, Seal and I loaded up some
B24 formations with 50% fuel and
8x1000lb bombs to do some damage
to Bishop bases A3 and A9, I
believe it was, which were east
of A21. On climb-out Luft took
off 21 so we circled to group up
eventually deciding to continue
to target and Luft could hit
whatever fighter hangers we
missed on our pass. Two fighter
hangers were killed and RTS took
some damage on the attack over
A3. Secondary target was changed
to A4, a front line Bish base,
and RTS and Luft continued to
it. Seal got some later orders
on the target change and was
OK'ed to continue onto A9 while
I reversed to try and finish off
the remaining fighter hangers at
A3. Three of four fighter
hangers were put out of
commission and I picked up a 190
while rtb-ing to A150, the field
RTS and Luft landed at after
their attack. I called for
assistance from the pilots who
already landed and they came up
to chase the 190 away and with
their help I managed to land.
Unfortunately he did manage to
kill two of my drones.

By that time we all rtb-ed and
more Specs had come online so
another buff run was scheduled
out of 21 to hit Rook bases
south. Five groups of B24s took
off south with Duel as escort in
a 190 aiming to level hangers at
A75 and then A5 on the rtb leg.
Similar to the first run a few
hangers and installations were
destroyed and we turned left to
rtb and hit 5. Between the
targets an enemy Yak and a Nik2
were in the area and the Nik2
attacked Lees, which was lead
bomber at the time. Duel came in
and the Nik2 was dispatched. It
turned out to be the imitator 'fuze_'
from AW so Duel gets a free
virtual case of beer for that
kill. A5 was hit and we got
somewhat strung out but the rtb
was mainly uneventful and we
landed at a low alt base SE of
A21.
I had to leave at that point but
some stayed on and I believe
conducted a fighter sweep to rid
the skies of the enemy.

I know I left a few things out
but didn't want to review the
whole 6Mb film I took. I was
going to try a few screen shots
but you can't take them when
viewing films in the more
advanced viewer like you could
with the older in-game one.
Please step up and refresh my
memory if I did forget any stand
out moments, and apologies if I
did omit anything.
The bad part, and its minor, is
that with that many bombers we
could have been able to flatten
the FHs at 2 or 3 fields so some
bomber training may be in order.
The good part was we had many
guys up and had a TON-o-fun.
I'll take the fun over destroyed
hangers any day!!!
Remember to check the 'clipboard
maps' if you have any doubt or
question on your target. An idea
I had with so many bombers was
to possibly have two groups work
together. The lead bomber role
on the initial attack would be
to bomb and the second would be
to act as a gunship for defense
of the lead. On the second
target the roles would be
reversed so you get to do
gunning and bombing hopefully
without having to jump from
bombsite to gunner to stay
alive. We may work on this in
the TA along with our
calibration on a coming squad
night.

Does anyone have any questions
on bombing and calibration? If
so I'm putting together an
updated tutorial on bombing and
calibration and hope to have it
together before we do our bomber
training. IMO and I've done it
before, a single group of three
B24s has the ability to level
all FHs at a medium base, that
is hit all four FHs in two
passes when there is no enemy
opposition to interrupt your
calibration.
It was nice to see seven Specs
up and flying.
