After Action Report for 5 January 2010.
Training and follow-up in Titanic Tuesday.
The evening started in the Training Arena working on hitting specific targets
with rockets. This would be the definition of porking. Depending on your point
of view a part of the game or a waste of time. I prefer to think of it as
Prevent Ordinance Reaching Knightland :o) Anyway, we loaded up a few D Caddys
with 50% fuel and 6 5" rockets. Using the air-spawn from A23 we made a couple
practice attacks on A90, I believe was the target base. The strat was not
repairing itself as quickly as it had a day earlier. As
it was, the non-regeneration of targets was the big problem. We then moved to
the Titanic Arena and as usual kicked a hornets nest.
I had thought I made a screenshot of the map but I can't seem to find it. Seeing
a picture is worth a thousand words..., one down and nine-hundred-ninety-four to
go.
We had enemy action on both the East and western fronts on arrival and headed
west to hit a base. We gathered at A244 with a plan to hit the enemy base to the
south, A217. Using the same crate we did in the TA we loaded up the Caddy with
50% fuel, a pair of thousand pound eggs and half a dozen rockets. First wave
took off and headed south-southeast climbing. Mission was to hit and disable the
fighter and vehicle hangers. Hangers were hit but a small defense force had
assembled. We fought to the death and joined the second wave on next takeoff.
Second wave was again heavy but this time the town was primary target. Using
every type of ordinance we had the town was leveled. There still was a small
amount of enemy resistance in the area.
It was about time for the hangers to came back up so the third wave was to
shut down the fighter and vehicle hangers again. The fighter hangers popped
before we got there and a sizeable defense sprang up. I believve we had a goon
come this wave and got near A217 town but the area was never suppressed to the
pint where we had flight superiority, despite some assistance by other Knights.
As was mentioned earlier, we were getting attacked from both sides so additional
assistance was tough to come by. We continued fighting against stiff opposition
but eventually most of the support dwindled shifting the balance of power.
It was definitely a 'kick the honest nest and see what happens' night.
Regarding next months training. I'd like us to practice some dog-fighting and
get some constructive feedback for each fight. I'd like a few volunteers to act
as trainers sort of I guess. We'd probably need three or four at a minimum and
I'll be one of them even though this was never my strength being able to dissect
a guys style and fight to see what's good or bad. I can usually spot a glaring
mistake that throws a fight and hopefully that will be enough. So you former Air
Warrior Trainers and those who can help let me know. We'll have a trainer fight
a guy and try to give feedback on the fight. As gravy I suppose the 'trainer'
could explain why they did a certain move or maneuver at a certain time or how
the managed the fight to win it. Filming these fights and reviewing them in the
next few days would reinforce any points that were presented to make us each
more lethal. even though the views aren't perfect and you cant see all control
inputs from the enemy watching the fight from his plane can be enlightening.

Hello Gentlemen,
Tuesday came up sort of quick, as it has been recently for some reason.
Too late to ask what you guys need to work on so thats out.
Havn't finished my new maps spotlighting certain targets, so thats out. Tough to
find colors on that palatte that work.
Thinking of practicing rocket attacks from altitude again and then going porking
in TT.
So
starting in the Training Arena at Bishop A23.
Plane will be P-51D, 50% fuel with rockets and plan will be to 1] get down to
12k alt 2] make pra tice roacket attacks on ammo bunkers. We will pair into
wingmen teams and we will practice going in together and proceed with that
attack. Going in together splits, or should, the field guns and give each a
better chance of survival. On dive it may benefit you to chop throttle to line
up your targets but speed and energy will help you clear that field ack when
lower and egressing the target area and climbing back up to the group. At first
it might be helpful to stay level to clear AAA and then start a steep climb,
ROC~3 ish to regroup.
If we get there early we can have each wingman team pick a separate skin. P-47
D-40 or N would also fill this role with no radiator but it might not be as fast
after attacking also. It does have almost twice the rocket load-out though. The
D pony has the nice gun-sight, the default one for it, which is a nice one for
high altitude rocket attacks in my opinion.
Again, being in the TA we will use a separate radio 5 channel, lets go with 189
Tuesday. An of course remember to use .radio 5 4 after training to retune to
squad Vox.
After I get the new target ID maps done, we will try this again with 500lb bombs
with targets being the troop barracks. While this mission is hitting ammo
bunkers also hitting the radar might help our chances of survival.
